Veggies, Melons and Tomatoes, Oh my!

Squash

I went out this morning to take some pictures of the veggies we have coming up in the veggie patch, and I was pleased to find this beauty of a squash. It was so cute just peaking out from under the leaves, it is still a bit yellow on it’s underside

Cucumber

but I think we will be having some squash in a week or 2, YUM!

This little cucumber (to the left) is one of 2 of this variety currently bearing fruit in our veggie patch, I have been watching these little cucumbers for the last week or so, they have gone from being swollen little nodes of the plant to itsy bitsy little cucumber-lets. I am sure that in a few weeks they will be plump and delicious!

Baby Watermelon

The picture below is of a  little baby watermelon has been growing slow but steady for about 2 weeks now. It has such a lovely skin on it! All soft and vibrant greens, the leaves on this one are very pretty too, almost lacy.  Right now it is Tomato only about as big as a soft ball. I can’t wait until it is big enough to eat!

Tomato

This little green tomato is not nearly as lonely as it looks! We have a tonne of tomato plants in the yard. There are a handful in the main veggie garden, there are also a bunch in our lettuce patch. This one is just starting to get a yellow cast to it’s supple green skin. I am considering using it for fried green tomatoes, one of Joey’s favorite summer dishes, but I guess we will just have to wait and see. Either way, I love LOVE tomatoes.

This last picture of the garden is just an overview, see if you can identify what all we are growing?

garden overview

An honorable mention to anyone who can guess correctly what exactly we are growing!
